Gunung Raung muncul di lereng sebelah barat kompleks Kawah Ijen, dengan tinggi puncaknya 3332 m di atas permukaan laut. Kawah G. Raung terletak di bagian dasar kalderanya dan sampai sekarang masih memperlihatkan aktifitas, yaitu ditandai dengan adanya hembusan solfatara/fumarola.
