The gravity survey on Krakatau Islands was first carried out by means of a land gravimeter in 1968 ( Yokoyama and Hadikusumo, 1969) and was supplemented by the present authors in 1982. The gravity points on the islands has reached 40 in number.

The eruptions produce lava, fragments (Bombs, Blocks, Lapilli & Anh). This view shows, upper left, the eruptive centre (G.Jadi) from 4km distance. The smoking ashey deposit in the centre has been deposited from a high density burning gas cloud (Nude Ardente) of 25/4/82. The topographic reconnaissance survey was carried out by us in March 15, 1983. The survey has utilized the modest available equipment for surveying, e.i. magnetic geologic compass and range finder. Altimeter was also used to determine the elevation. The survey was done in the morning between 7.00 to 8.00 am.

Pada bulan Juni 1990 dilakukan pengamatan visual di sekitar kawah G.Slamet, pengamatan ini dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui dan membuktikan apakah ada hubungan antara rekaman gempa dengan kegiatan di sekitar kawah, yaitu dengan melakukan pendakian ke puncak G.Slamet.
Jumlah gempa vulkanik dangkal G.Slamet terus meningkat sejak tanggal 17 Januari hingga Maret 1991, kemudian disusul oleh peningkatan jumlah gempa permukaan.
