Ceara, estado ("state") of Northeastern Brazil. It is bounded on the north by the Atlantic Ocean, on the east by the Atlantic and states of Rio Grande do Norte and Paraiba, on The South by the state of Pernambuco and on the west by the state of Piaui. It covers an area of 57,150 square miles (148,016 square km). The capital, Fortaleza, is the principal cultural, commercial and seaboard shipping centre. Other principal town are Juajeiro do Norte, Sobral, Crato, Iguatu, and Crateus, the baclands are the main topographic regions of state.
