Indonesian arc magmatism : Petrology, tectonics, and mineralization
Magma generation in arc systems is the most complex phenomenon and history compared to that in other tectonic settings. The magma source/or sources and process/or processes caused the wide geochemical variation of the rocks produced are widely discussed, but still no agreement among the petrologists and geochemists. Indonesia has, at least, 15 volcano-plutonic arcs with total approximately
9,000 kilometers length. There are many studies on petrology and geochemistry of the volcanic and subvolcanic rocks, their relation to tectonics as well as the mineral deposit association, and the results were presented in a number of publications.
This volume represents a collection mainly of articles resulted from research done by the Centre for Geological Survey (CGS; previously the Geological Research and Development Centre/GRDC), Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. After some consideration few articles as a result of research project from other institutions and the articles were published by the Indonesian Journal of Geology are also included. The original idea is to republished articles on Indonesian arc magmatism, especially concerning with petrology and petrogenesis, tectonic implication, and the relation to mineral deposit formation.
