Geochemical exploration by the geological survey of Indonesia

This report covers my activities from August 2 to November 5,1972, in geochemical exploration as a part of the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) program in cooperation with the Geological Survey of Indonesia (GS!) sponsored by the Government of Indonesia and the Agency for International Development (AID) under Participating Agency• Agreelllent No. EA(IC) 14-70. The purpose of my assignment was to provide geologists engaged in geological mapping on Sulawesi, Sumatra, and Java, wi.th on-the-job craf.nfng in geochemical sampling. In addition, I was to work with GSI geochem.ists in interpreting the results of recent geocherafc.a l, exploration surveys made by GSI. Durin,g my stay in Indonesia, I worked with peologic Mapping Division parties on Sumbawa, Sulawesi, and Sumatra, and I made field excursions with geologists of the ExplOl"ation Division who were engaged in geoehemical exploration on Sulawesi and Sumatra. In addition, problems and techniques of geoc~emical surveys were discussed with geologists and geochemists of both Divisions, in Bandung as well as in the field camps.
