Term of reference proposal for the further mineral exploration of sumatra north of the equator
To this end an agreement was signed between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Indonesia for a five year Reconnaissance Geological and Geochemical mapping program which was carried out between 1975 and 1980 over the who Ie of Sumatra north of the Equator, an area of 190,000 kI,i2. I The results of this survey, wh i.ch was undertaken by a combined team of geologist from the Directorate of Mineral Resources (l.lvm.) of Indonesia, and the institute of Cenl ogica l Sciences (IGS), are bc i ng produced as a series of sixteen 250,000 scale geological n~ps with accompanying reports and an atlas displaying geochemical stream results. The former are complete mid the latter are being prepared as rap.ide Ly as possible compl e t ion being anticipated early in .1981. A Luuit ed amount of follow up work has also been completed and in several cases conmerc.i a l interest was aroused and resulted in exploration mves t.nent by private companies. At the . Tangse Cu/fvb porphyry prospect, discovered as ~1 result of the R.1./U.K. project, economic grade uiinera.li sat ion has recently been encounwred in a hole drillcJ by the company which has been working in the area for the past two years.
