Montreal Engineering carried out a feasibility study of the possible fuel supply, (including by product coal from the Capavari wash plant), also for the thermal plant expansion comprising two 125 MW units and associated coal handling and storage facilities for two new units, 115 and 116. Genera11 arrangement drawings, conceptual layouts, and capital and operating cost estimates were prepared for this thermal plant expansio'ii. together with the necessary new coal receiving, handling and storage facilitfes for all six units at Sotelca. The Sotelca station is one of the most important sources of electric energy in the South Region of Brazil. It• is worthy of note' that the maximum utilization of the coal resources in South Brazil is being achieved by the use of a by-product coal from the Capivari washing plant; the superior coal is directed to the Brazilian steel industry.
