GRDC 1:250,000 scale geological map and report series, proposals for connect and format for Southern Sumatra Reports.
Analysis of practicable revisio of GRDC quadrangle reports The purpose of publishing geological quadrangle reports to accompany the maps is to explain the entiie geology of the area represented by the ma quadrangle. This. involves explaining geological features represented on the map in greater detail than is possible on the map itself; presenting geological data which, by its nature, it is not possible to show on the map; presenting what is at least a representative selection 6f the actual. g.eological data available for the map quadrangle; and presenting a geological interpretation.and geological history for the uadrangle area. Limitations on the content of these reports are threefold. Firstly the content will be limited by what data is actually available from the field survey and associated research, company ata and published material (i.e. the content of the geological database for that quadrangle). Secondly there is a cost limitation on the actual size and content of the report. Very long report~•are obviously more expensive than shorter ones and, although some areas will warran~ longer reports than others, here needs to be some overall limitation placed on the desired ength. Inclusion o( colour, or even half-tone, photographs also adds to the expense and may be seen to unjustified. However, figures and tables are excellent ways of summarising complex data a small space and, because of this, maximum use of these types f display needs to be encouraged. Thirdly there is a limitation n the time required to write and compile a report and this also uts limits on its length and content.
