Predominant quartz sandstones in this area belong to the Balikpapan beds. It is light grey to white in color and turned brown in weathered rocks, fine to medium grained, subangular to angular, well bedded sorted and partly with coal grain impurities. Limonitic concretion or limitc coatings were usually found above the quartz sandstone bed. Mudstones (interbedded clay, silt and very fine grained quartz sandstone) and coal beds were encountered as intercalartions in the quartz sandstones beds. Its. bedding plane could rather well be measured, morever on the contact rocks.
