Asia-Pasific economic cooperation regional energy cooperation working group
Coal, a relatively low-cost fuel that produces significant amounts of pollutants, supplies 18,7% of the Korean economy's energy needs. The total amount of coal consumend in 1995 was 43,6 Million tons, only 5,5 million tons are domestic anthracite;the rest is imported bituminous coal. The three major industrial sectors that utilize imported coal are electricity genertion, iron and steel manufacturing, and the cement industry.
