Historrical review of developments in peat production and processing with particullar reference to the advances borrowed from annd contributed to other industries. In today's peat technology there is virtually nothing new, most approhes have been tried before. Those that succeeded became standard practice; those that failed are too often forgotten. As raw material peat does not repay complex processing. Experience shows that for its problems the simplest solutions are always the best. The peat industry should learn from the failures, as well as from the successes, of its piooners and thus avoid fruitless experimentation.
