Geology and evaluation of kuroko and rare earth mineral resources
Radioactive detrital heavy minerals are found in the beaches and coastal thelves of te Capoas-Erawan area, San Vicente, Palawan. Allanite, sphene, zircon and monuzite ae the min suspected to contain uranium, thorium and rare earths (e-g Ce, Y) Other heavy minerals, tope rutile, anatase, castiterite, muscovite, hornblende, orthoclase and plagioclase were also associane with the quartz sands The minerals were identified by optical methods, and by X-ray diffraction and fluoresc 2nalyses. Samples were analyzed by delaved neutron activation annlysts for total U conte The minerals were probably derived from the granitoid rocks underlying Mt. Capoas and other portions of the area including Binga (Toy), Erawan, Imuruan and Alemanguan Previous chemical analyses of samples taken from the same area did not, unfortunately include the proportions of the heavy minerals in the raw samples (Macdonald, 1971, Alag EXPLANETISN 1981) Th and rare earths as indicated in previous reports.
