Color,pattern, and symbol for geologic maps

Hirokawa, Osamu - Nama Orang;

(1) Conventional Colors for Geologic Maps
The following general rules for use of colors for geologic IIB.ps were proposed by the International Geological Congress held in Italy in 1882.
1. To use deeper colors for older fonnations and lighter colors for younger ones.
2. To use similar but di.st.inqui.shabl.e colors for geologic units close to each other•in geologic age.
3. To use primary (spectral) colors for ~sozoic and Tertiary formations; i.e. yellow for Tertiary, green for Cretaceous, blue for ) Jurassic, and indigo for Triassic and c::cnp:>und colors for Paleozoic.
4. To use deep colors for igneous rocks; a series of red color for felsic rocks, and a series of purple or deep green for IIB.fic rocks.
The above-rrentioned.rul~s have been generally applied to coloring of the geologic IIB.ps depicted since the proposal.
The colors for Paleozoic and Precambrian are often use1 as follows: russet brown for Paleozoic, rose red for Pennian, wann grey
for carbonifeous, reddish brown for Devonian, e:cerald green for Silurian, deep green for Ordovician, ultramarine for cambrian, and pink for Precambrian.
Colors for metanorphic rocks are often used as follows: agreenish ~und color for a high pressure type and a re::idish to pinkish carpound color for a high tatqJerature type.
A series of blue are usually used for limestone or shale, a series.,1pf yellow for chert or sandstone, and a series of brown for cong-lcmarate.
(2) Notes for Color Schares
The followings are suggested for color sche:ces.
1. To select colors- carefully for a geo~ogic IIB.p on a large scale or of a large area on which a number of geologic units different in age as well as in litn>logy are to be depicted.
2. When a number of geologic units of a period are to be depicted
