The petroleum sector remains a critical element of the Indonesia economy. Oil and gas accounted for almost a third of the country's export receipts in 1992. While the crude oil share of GDP is not growing, gas development and petroleum processing are increasing. Oil and Gas continue to account for a large share of goverment revenues. Industry analysts suggest that new policy approaches to exploitation, procesing and untilization of the country's hydrocarbon resources have the potential to stimulate growth in the sector.
