Proceedings of Sulawesi mineral resources seminar, 28 - 29 November, 2011 Manado, Indonesia
Mineral Exploration and mining activities have been undertaken in Sulawesi since the turn 19th century, but by world standartslage parts of the region remain underexplored. Todate only two commodities have been mined on a significan scale, viz. Gold with a total production of about 90 t (excluding artisanal mining), and nickel totaling about 4.8 Mt. Gold deposits found todate are of small to modest size and mostly low grade,, whereas Ni laterite deposits very greatly in size. Estimates of potentially economic Cu-Au resources in porphyry deposits in Northern Sulawesi vary from about 300 Mt to 350Mt averaging 0.0% Cu and between 0.3 and 0.5g/t Au.
