This paper mark the commencement of a program to provide a comprehensive abalysis and projections of demand, supply, trade and, in particular, investment requirements for steaming coal un the APEC region over the periode to 2010. The approach being taken is to use MEGABARE, a dynamic general equilibrium model which, as well as covering the whole world, accounts for the interactions of all major economic linkages both at any point in time and between periods. To date, there have been several regional and partial studies which provide useful analyses information and projections within limited frameworks. This paper reports initial results from a more ambitious approach which takes account of the multiplicity of factors affecting the energy sector, both regionally and globally.
