A Volcanologic Investigation of three Important Recent Eruption in Indonesia : Tambora 1815, Krakatoa 1883 and Agung 1963

This proposal requests funds to support an investigation respectively. of three large eruptions from the volcanoes Tambora, Krakatoa and Agung which occurred in 1815, 1883 and 1963 Though the nature of the eruptions, and especially the deposits of ejecta, are poorly understood, these events are known to have caused considerable effects in the stratospheric aerosol layer. the post eruption years. For Agung, 1963, there are numerous data on perturbations of the aerosol layer in Volcanologic data which would help reconstruction of these events is lacking and for purposes of a full evaluation of the effects of large volcanic eruptions on temperature and circulation we propose to conduct the necessary volcanologic investigations at the sites of the eruptions.
