Some Features on Preparinng Delineation MAP of Ceramic Raw Materials in Indonesia

Ceramic raw materials are largely distributed in Inchnesia. Rather large anount of good quality kaolin deposits occur in the area of Bangka and Bilito~, whereas the ceramic factories are generally located in Java. Ch the island of Java the ceramic raw materials, having small reserves in general, are dispersally distributed. The mineral deposits consist of quartz-sericite ("toseki"), pyrophyllite, "bond clay" (kaolinite, illite) and other clay minerals •. These minerals are very important, because they are closely related to small mining entities. One of the kaolin deposits outside Java Le. hich occurs in the isle of Biliton, has now been exploited by Pf Tambang Timah in the, frameworkof diversification.
In order to develop the role of small scale mining entities, exploiting the ceramic raw materials in Indonesia, esp. in Java, obstacles arc .met in classifying as well as the effective utilization of those raw materials.
To overcone these difficulties; a rather sufficient supporting data is needed, arrong others the quantitative X-ray defraction analysis.
For this purpose, aids of standard samples and experts are required, besides a ceramic raw material expert, esp. one who is experienced in handling small scale mines.
Regarding the features nent ioned above, in handling the small scale mining in Java, an expert consultant in this matter is needed.
A good example to be put forward here, is Japan; namely in the area of Arita, where the ceramic raw materials are exploited by small entities which develop very well, seen from the technological as ell as from
t.re managerial point of views.
