The Homogeneity Of Six Geochemical Exploration Reference Samples

U.S. Geological Survey analysts have made more than 4fi,OUO determinations on six geochemical exploration reference samples for the purpose of furnishing data on the homogeneity of the samples. The samples are considered to bL• sufficiently uniform to be use f'ul a., geochemical exploration reference samples despite si1;nifica11t variance (c, = 0.05) in the data for some clemcuts. as revealed by a hierarchical analysis of variance. Statistical parameters arc presented, bused on analyses of 50 randomly chosen samples, where opera• tor, technique, and instrumental variables were controlled.
Non-Survey laboratories have also furnished data on various elements from the same
six geochemical reference samples. A summary of these results is available from the authors upon request.
