A Geochemical Orientation Survey In The Sangkaropi Province, Central Sulawesi, Republic Of Indonesia

1. At the request of the Directorate of Mineral Resources (IMR), Republic of Indonesia, the outcrops of massive sulphide de• posits in Sangkaropi Project area, Central Sulawesi, were visited by the writer during the period from 15 to 24 December, 1979.

2. 55 samples of stream sediment were collected fran the areas of Sangkaropi, Rumanga and Bilolo. During the field work, the sampling techniques characterized by wet sieving and panning with stream water and drying the samples at base camp were demons• trated to the counterpart geologists of both IMR and P.T. Aneka Tarnbang.

•3. The samples collected were analysed for Cu, Pb, Zn, CxCu, CxPb, CxZn, Co and Ni at the laboratory of IMR and for Ba and Cd at the laboratory of Mineral Technology Development Centre.

4. The analytical results obtained were interpreted, in rela- tion to the known outcrops of base-metal sulphide. The samples taken from downsteam of the outcrops showed strongly anomalous stream sediment samples collected, of which no outcrop has been found in upstream area, suggested mineralization of Cu, Pb and Zn.

5. It is recorrmended that a regional geochemical reconnaissan• ce survey using stream sediment samples and the sampling techniques demonstrated should be carried out in the region occupied by the intennediate an4 basic volcanic rocks of Miocene age in Sulawesi.

6. The detailed geochemical survey using grid soil samples combined with some geophysical svrveys is also recommended to be carried out in the areas in which the existence of mineralization is suggested in this report.
