Unit 1 Geochemical Data Unit 2 Composition and Structure of The Earth and Its Minerals Unit 3 Geochemical History of The Earth
In this short Course the main emphasis will be on the methods by which geo• chemists select and analyse accessible Earth materials, the relationships between the chemical composition and the structure of rocks and minerals, the chemical aspects of the Earth's structural evolution, geochemical reactions and cycles, and the practical applications of geochemistry.
Geochemistry is concerned with the distribution of element~ within the different parts of the Earth. This naturally involves consideration of both the physical and chemical properties of the Earth as a whole, and of the chemical processes which take place- within and upon it-these correspond to the traditional fields of geology and chemistry. The Course draws heavily on both the Chemistry and Earth Science of the Science Foundation Course (Sl()O), particularly Units 5-12 and 22-27. You will also be required to read sections from the set book.
