Some Aspects of the Nature and Origin of the Widespread Pyroclastic Flow Deposits (Ignimbrite) Sumounding Tangkubanparahu, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.
The "Gkpf" pyroclastic flow deposots surrounding Tangkubanparahu volcano are non welded pyroclastic flows (ignimbrite) that cover an area of 200 km2. A simple calculation of the material lost during the formation of the Sunda caldera is 66 km3. The age of carbonized lost preserved in the deposit was 38,300 years. Major activity of Sunda vulcano began with a Plinian phase, followed by pyroclastic flows. About 6.5 x t.5 km caldera, 200 metres deep formed at the end of the pyroclastic flow phase. Caldera volume approximately matched taht of magma ejected plus the older material of Sunda vulcano edifice. Several layers of pyroclastic flows can be distinguished from some drill wells and subsurface geologic map profile in the area.
