Sedimentary Rock Alternation In The Slick Rock District Sanmiguela And Dolores Counties Colorado
In the Slick Rock district, terrestrial red beds of Permian and Mesozoic age several thousand feet thick are overlain by Upper Cretaceous reduced rocks and underlain by Pennsylvanian reduced rocks, each mostly marine and a few thousand feet thick. The red beds, noteworthy for their contained uranium-vanadium ore deposits, are chiefly oxidized rocks, bµt locally they 1?ontain twQ facies of reduced rocks, one related to accumulations of abundant carbonized plant material and the other the result of epigenetic reducing alteration. Otir deposits occur in carbon facies rocks, but • only where these rocks also have been epigenetically altered.
