Field Report of Sampling Campaign to Colo Volcano (Una - Una) Sulawesi, Indonesia
The active Colo volcano is situated on the island of Una-Una in the Gulf of Gorontalo (0°10'S and 121°35'E). This isolated volcano is located in a peculiar tectonic position, ca 70 km south of the extinct northern volcanic arm of Sulawesi and ca 40 km north of the volcanic extinct Togian Islands. There are two known historic eruptions: 1-2 May 1898 and 23 July 1983. During the latest eruption ash flows destroyed the western part of the island, and only a small rim on the eastern side of ca 1 km was not effected by this eruption. Previous investigations (Wichmannn, 1902; Koperberg, 1928; Umgrove, 1930, Petroeschevsky, 1946, Katili, 1963; Katili and Sudradjat, 1984) have reported on the 1898 and 1983 eruptions and the petrology of some of the older lavas on Una-Una.
