A NEW APPROXIMATE METHOD FOR DIRECTLY INTERPRETING GRAVITY ANOMALY PROFILES GAUSED BY SURFADE GEOLOGIC STRUCTURES
The problem of solving for the shape of a geologic body which exhibits a measured gravity anomaly has no direct solution in the general case.To obtain a satisfactory solution to such a problem with any degree of rigor,one must resort to a trial-and-error (iterative) solution.This problem is discussed for two-dimensional geometry in some detail by Bott(1960)and by Fournier and Krupicka (1973).An estimate of maximum depth to certain idealized bodies was suggested by Skeels (1963).
