Indonesia Geothermal Resources And Database Status December 2005 A Country Report

The installed geothermal power capacity in lndonesia (857 MWe) is very small
compared to the huge geothermal potential in this country. Dependency in fossil fuels
for generating electricity is still significant. Development of geothermal energy
utilization has not significantly increased since it is only around 2o/o in contributing
national electricity. By issuing the geothermal law in 2003 and preparing other
geothermal regulations are expected to enhance geothermal development in
lndonesia. A continuously updated system of geothermal database management is
becomes important to support the acceleration of geothermal development in this
country.
