Mineral Deposits of Sulawesi

Sulawesi (formerly Celebes) is located in the centre of the Indonesian Archipelago, straddling the equator. It is a region whre three major plates converge and interact, which has given rise ti ah highly complex and diverse geology, consisting of metamorphic complexes, ophiolite terranes, volcanic arcs, granitoid belts, and sedimentary basins. This in turn has resulted in a divesity of mineral deposit types. The history of mineral exploration and mining in Sulawesi goes back more than 150 years, but the region remains underexplored by today's standards.
