Elements of Geology ; Third Edition
During the past century, and most par-ticularly in the decades following World War II there has been a tremendous ex-pansion of the impact of science on everyday life. Explanations of scientific phenomena, particularly those of catastrophic effect on society, are given at all levels of education, science dominates the news media, most households make use of products that are the result of applied scientific research, and poli-ticians and industrialists pay close attention to scientifically conducted polls. Heads of state have panels of scientific advisers, and international awards are given for outstand-ing scientific achievement.
