FELDSPAR SAND OCCURRENCES IN THE COASTAL AREA OF MEDAN, NORTH SUMATRA INDONESIA
The occurence of feldspar sand in the coastal area of medan was first mentioned by davis in 1939. Mineralogically the sand is composed of quartz, sanidine, maffic minerals (such as biotite, amphibole and ores) rock fragments and shells. The most dominant mineral composition is generally quartz, but locally sanidine takes over the role.Due to the development of ceramic industry in Indonesia, where the demand of feldspar is getting higher every year, the Directorate of Mineral Resources has conducted several investigations on this ceramic raw material in sumatera, java and Kalimantan.
