Active copper-leaching and its dependence on hydrothermal alteration at the porphory-deposit Kaputusan (P. Bacan, Northern Moluccas)
The Copper - Gold Porphyry of Kaputusan shows a zoning of hydrothermal alteration. A potassic core is surrounded by a propylitic halo. A younger pyrite-rich quartz-sericitic alteration partly overprints the older alterations. Analyses from channel samples from superficial trenches show that copper is mostly leached in the areas of quartz- sericitic alteration. Analysing the water of springs and seepages on and around the deposit showed that water originating from the quartz - sericitic areas contains a relatively high copper-content. This means that copperleaching by acidic water is still active.
