Sapphire occurrences in upper barito central kalimantan

Sapphires in Upper Bari to occur in active Busang stream deposits. The sapphires gravel deposits associates with heavy minerals such as zircon, garnet, epidote, ilmenite, chrom diopside, chromite and magnetite. The colour varies from red-rose to light-blue, greenish blue, greenish grey, pink, and white. Some of the sapphires are opaque but suitable for cabochon polished gemstone. The others are showing good crysta1 and transparent important to the value of gemstone. Most sapphires in the Upper Bari to derives from recent alluvial stream deposits, and up to the present no information concerning the finding of sapphires insitu or primary sapphires. Geologically speaking, the fonnation of rocks which cropped out in the Upper Barito could be possible for as primary sapphire source.
