Lahar and Pyroclastic Flow Hazard Zoning of Semeru Volvano, East Java, Indonesia

A additional complexity of volcanic activity is the need to place it in a human context in order to avoid volcanic disaster. Photo-interpretation of the existing aerial photographs at 1: 50,000 scale dating from 1982 has been undertaken to greatly Increase the efficiency of the volcanic hazards survey at Semeru vulcano. This photo-interpretation map has been checked in the field, and a geomorphological map, including the field study of volcanic stratigraphy, was compiled.

A concise zonation maps have been compiled primarily on the basis of the present geomorphological terrain configuration and the volcanostratigraphic situation. At present, the evaluation has focused on the hazards caused by lahar and pyroclastic future eruptions. flow of Both the zonation map of lahar flow hazard and the zonation map of pyroclastic flow hazard are divided into 4 zones (1) Very high risk Zone, (2) High risk Zone, (3) Low risk Zone, and (4) Very low risk Zone
