Mineral Deposits of Sulawesi

Sulawesi has a highly complex geology, which is reflected in a wide variety of mineralization styles, including porphyry Cu-Au, porphyry Mo, epithermal and metamorphic- and sediment-hosted Au, lateritic Ni and Fe, placer Cr, skarn and VMS. The documented mineral exploration and mining history in Sulawesi spans a period of 125 years. Gold mining started in 1896 and nickel have been produced. By world standards, Sulawesi is under explored and the potential of bringing some of the known undeveloped mineral resources into production and making new discoveries is good.
