Coal Geology With Special Reference To Coal Genesis

Coal is one of the most well known natural resources as a fossil fuel which original materials were derived from fosil plants. According to the modern scientific knowledge, major part of the coal deposits on the world is mainly composed of fossil land plant. The coal derived from plant of geologic past (later than silurian pariod) is classified in "Humic Coal", while that from such aquatic plant as algae is classified in "sapropelic coal" which usually has less stratified banded structure and higher hydrogen content than the former.
