First published in 1848,authoredby J.D.Dana ,The Manual of Mineral Science now enters its 23rd edition .This new edition ,outhored by cornelis klein of the university of new mexico and barbara doutrow of louisiana state continues in the tradition of iys predecessors as the standard textbook in mineralogy,mineralscience ,earth materials ,and rock and minerals courses.over the years,the manual of mineral science has brought its authority and comprehensive approach to students the world over :since the 19th edition ,the manual of mineral science has been translated into 4 different languages ;Russian ,spanish ,Chinese ,and Italia ,and will soon be available in slovak.
Now organized into 22 chapters, 23nd edition of the Manual of Mineralogy Science, packages coherent subject matter into smaller, more easily accessible units. Each of the 22 chapters has a new and expanded introductory statement, bhich gives the gives the user a quick overview of what is to come. This feature is preseded by a new illustration that highlights some aspect of the subject in that particular chapter. Additionally, many of the first 14 chapters are independent of each other, allowing for grater flexibiliy in as intructor"s preferred subject sequence.
The accompanying Mineralogy Tutorial CD ROM (3.0) has been expanded additions compliments the already robust CD ROM, which includes a large number of animations that deal with three-dimmensional concepts (in crystal chemistry and crystallography) that are difficult to vissualize from a book illustration, as well as brieft text pages for 104 of the most common minerals, with kinks to srystal structure illustrations, compositional and asemblage diagrams, stanility and phase diagrams, and solid aolitio mechanisms.
