This is the report on the preliminary Exploration in the First stage of the central Sumatra Coal Exploration Project (CTA-156) carried out in the fiscal year 1986/1987. The purpose of the Preliminary Exploration in to select the two most suitable areas out of the three project areas consisting of Rokan, Cerenti including logas, and sinamar for further exploration in the second and later stages. For this purpose, all existing geological data available were reviewed and the reconnaissance geologic survey was carried out by the indonesia-japan joint team in order to comprehend the potential of the three project areas.
