Protocol Of Joint Technical Meeting Of Indonesian Specialists Of "PBBK" And Soviet Specialists Carrying Out Qork Of Contract No 383
According to the program of " Iron and Steel Project of Kalimantan " approvede n. Madjelis Permusjawaratan Rakjat Sementara ( The Indonesian Temporary National Council ) geological investigations were carried out within the Busang and Sigihan coal deposit in 1963-1964, with a view to ascertain the coal quality and reserves of commercial importance so as to supply a future iron and steel plant in Kalimantan.
The coal-bearing Moicence formation og the Sigihan coal deposit of 900 m thick contains five coal seams, of which only the so-called seams I and III are of economis importance. The thickness of coal seam I judging from the observed outerops, range from 0.70 to 1.34 m, and thickness of seam III is in the average of 0.70 m. Calorific value of the coal is rather high amounting to 7.000 - 8.200 Cal. The preliminary investigations of cooking properties of the coal, accompalished in the USSR have showed that in order to obtain high grade coke it is necessary to blande the Sigihan coal with 40-50% well coking coal of grade * .
The coal seams, located in the central part of the syncline dip at gentle angels, rangking from 3 to 12', occasionally from 15 to 20'. On the western limb of the syncline attectonic distrubance, or a zone of tectonic distrubance is present, the character of which has not been investigated. The probable coal reserves of the seam I and III were estimated as 1.185.000 tons and were considered to be insignificant.
The core drilling, which is being carried out at present, should yield a clear idea of probable commercial coal reserves of the Sigihan coal deposit.
The Busang coal deposit with the area of 12.4 sq.km composed of Quarternary and Neogene sedimentary recks. Three coal seams of commercial importance so-called the lower, Middle and Main seams with the average thickness of 1.02, 0.70, and 1.68 m respectively, have been found in the so-called Pulubalang formation, confined to the Upper Miocence series. Structually, the deposit is situated in the eastern limb of the eastern branch of the so-called Busang anticlines, complicated by some tranveres faults with the displacement, ranging within the limits of 5-50 m. The dip angels of the seams range from 15-20'in close proximity to the anticlinal axis and 2-5' by the synclinal axis.
The coal is considered to have a small degree of netamorphism, and it refers to a long-flame type. its caking capacity is consideracle in the lower seam ( swelling degree of the coke button is about a unit ) is characterix=zed by low sulphur content ( 0.49% ) and lack of phosphorous contents in the Main seam fluctuate within the limit of 1.59-1.7% and 0.16-0.03% respectively. according to the International Coal Classification the Lower seam and the total coal reserves is 9.100 thou. tons out of which 1.100 thou. tons found to belong to category C2 and to possible reserves, of the Middle seam which was calculated to a depth of 200 m, and 8.000 thou. tons found to belong to category of C1 and C2 and possible reserves of the Main seam, which was calculated to a depth of 100 m.
