A word of exploration is offered about the production and editing of these Proceedings. Twentty papres originated in the english language and twenty-eight in Chinese. The English papres were reviewed by the small sciensific committee from countries other tha China, and the Chinese papers by a Chinese committee. The English Language volume has been edited with a view to providing the researcher with an adequate supply of material from which he can draw his own conclusions. That some reduction in langth would have been desirable will be evident but time and other commitments did not allow this.
