This directory reflect a consolidated effort by U.S. industry and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to list and index readily available current export sources for U.S. coal and coal related technologies. This effort is a direct result of industry suggestion from a series of government/industry public meetings on international coal and technology trade opportunities. The directory is part of an on going government effort to cooperate with U.S. coal and fossil energy technology industries in more active promotion of international trade opportunities. The directory represent a listing of U.S. private sector entities offering coal and coal technology products that are available for export. Included in these pages are resources for coal of all types and compositions from the United State's 290 billion short tons of estimated recoverable resources, technical and consulting services in every conceivable application, and venture capital. This is far from a complete listing, and it is intended that the list will be expanded in subsequent editions of the directory. U.S. DOE will continue to develop its list of organizations in this directory as industry awareness increases within the U.S. and as new products and technologies come to market. The U.S. is committed to advancing the utilization of coal and capturing the value of this plentiful and inexpensive energy source. This commitment, however, is coupled with an understanding of the environmental demands of such utilization and the need to apply clean coal technologies to protect the world ecosystem and the quality of life on this planet.
