A feedback or validation procedure is an essential feature of petroleum resource evaluation methodology. The purpose of such a procedure is to provide assessors with a mechanism which enables them to validate input data and challenge geological interpretations. In our method, pool sizes can be estimated by rank from the pool size distribution and the number of pools of a play (Lee and Wang, 1983a), but these estimates can be further validated by various procedures. Validations by discovery record, or by play potential derived from different perspectives, such as volumetric method, may be used. A validation mechanism used to test pool sizes by a given play potential has been provided by Lee and Wang (1983b). In this paper, a method is presented for checking the individual pool sizes by utilizing a discovery record which consists of observed pool sizes and their perceived ranking in the play.
