Seismic Computing

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists is proud to publish this Memorial Volume honoring the late Dr. Morris Miller Slotnick was an out standing figure in the geophysical field and during his career was the author of numerous papers dealing with geophysical interpretaion. Some of the computing prosedures which he developed have been used extensively. He was Editor of Geophysits in 1937 and 1938, and, in this capacity, contributed much to the improvement of the tecnical stature of the journal. The title of the book is " Lesson in Seismic Computing ." It deals entirely with seismic computing, and its contents consist of an orderly sequence of Jessons arranged just as they were used in the classroom. Even though Dr. Slotnick was well known to many members of the society, it seems fitting to review briefly his background of education and experience. He received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics from Harvard University in 1926. This was followed by a year of post doctoral studies at Hamburg, Germany, as the recipient of a Harvard Traveling Research Fellowship. Then came a year at Princeton as a National Reseacrh Fellow, a year as a mathematics instructor at Harvard and then a year as an assistant professor of mathematics at Grinnell College.
