The granites of the South-East Asian tin belt crop out in a zone extending for almost 4000 km from Burma (Myanmar) to the Indonesian archipelago. This memoir presents the results of six-year project to study the field occurrence, mineralogy, petrography, geochemistry and isotopic characteristics of the granities. As such it represents a truly international multidisciplinary study with the participation of geoscientist from the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The potential economic significance of the study is obvious; the tin belt of South-East Asia has supplied some 70 per cent of the world's total tin production. A better knowledge of the geology of the region for both resource and environmental purposes is also important because this is one of the fastestgrowing areas of Asia, with rapidly expanding populations and developing national economies.
