Krakatau catastrophic eruption in 1883 produced a large amount of pumice in the form of pyroclastic flow or fall. At present, they are on Rakata, Sertung, Panjang, and Sebesi islands. Pulau Krakatau dinamakan orang juga Pulau Rakata. Penduduk Banten dan suku Sunda, terutama suku Sunda yang berdiam di wilayah Jawa Barat bagian barat, lebih banyak mempergunakan nama Rakata, namun suku-suku bangsa Indonesia lainnya lebih banyak mempergunakan nama Krakatau. Dalam “Encyclopedie” van Nederlandsch Indie” juga dikatakan, bahwa Pulau Krakatau disebut orang juga Pulau Rakata.
