During the months of June until August 1974 three volcanic peaks emerged above sea level, after the occurrence of submarine activities which started since the first week of December 1973. The eruptive activities of Mt. Sirung during the months of May until June are summarized. May 12 An ash eruption took place at 06.00 loc. time; ash showers reached distances of 25 kilometers. The locality of the eruption center was assumed south of the crater lake or east of B crater.
On March 21 and 31 eruptions took place, discharging ash clouds about 1 kilometer high, which then drifted northeast until 5 kilome ters distant. Eruption products composed of ash, sand and lapilli mixed with sul-fur were deposited until a thickness of 2 centimeters above the villages of Lamalota, about 1 kilometer N.NW, and Dokin, about 2 kilo meters SE of the crater.
Renewed activities started on March 13 with an eruption, soon succeeded by bigger scale eruptions acoompanied by ejection of incandes cent lava fragments. Ash showers fell along the western coast of java adn sometimes on the Southern coast of Sumatera, depanding on the prevailing winds.

The mechanical "Spindler & Hoyer" observatory seismograph with horizontal component recorded 30 earthquakes incl 16 felt.
