Report On Mayon Volcano Visit The Philipines.
An invitation issued by Unesco under the Volcanologist Exchange Programme has given opportunity to the authors to visit Mayon Volcano, South Luzon, The Philippines, which was reported to have shown an increasing activity early May this year. The first increasing volcanic phenomenon was observed on May 3, and harmonic tremors were recorded the following days. The precaution measures have then been taken, evacuating some 2,000 people of the danger sectors. The total evacuees increased day by day due to the fact that the inhabitants of the considered safer sectors were fear of the blast danger and underwent the voluntary evacuations. The press release of the authority shows the figure of some 21,000 evacuees at present staying at the evacuation centers waiting for the go signal to return home, as the eruptive state of the volcano has not over. Although the authors were not able
to witness the first volcanic phenomenon, the epilogue has given faeneficial experience to both of them. Additionally a visit to Taal Volcano and Tiwi Geothermal Field was also part of the programme to obtain a general idea of volcanologic investigation activity carried out in the Philippines.
