Bandung – The Center for Mineral, Coal, and Geothermal Resources (PSDMBP), under the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), welcomed a visit from students of the Chemistry Study Program, Faculty of Science and Informatics, Jenderal Achmad Yani University (UNJANI), on Monday (24/11). The visit aimed to enhance the students’ knowledge and experience in using of the Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) instrument at the PSDMBP Laboratory.
During this session, PSDMBP Senior Geologist, Nelly Susanna, delivered presentation covering the Introduction to AAS Instruments, Calibration Curve Preparation, Standard Solution Preparation, Sample Solution Preparation, and Data Processing. In addition, the students also had the opportunity to hands-on AAS practical activities alongside the PSDMBP Laboratory Team.
“Through this presentation and practical session, we hope to enhance the students' knowledge and skills in correctly understanding the concepts and usage of the AAS instrument. We hope this experience will serve as an important preparation for the students as they enter the professional world of laboratory analysis,” stated Nelly.
During the practical session, students were guided to learn the stages of AAS instrument preparation, standard and sample solution preparation, up to the measurement process using the AAS instrument.
The Coordinator of the Instrumental Chemistry Practicum and Lecturer in Quantitative Analytical Chemistry at UNJANI, Trisna Yuliana, expressed her appreciation for the opportunity provided by PSDMBP.
“When students can have a practicum here, hopefully, they will receive holistic material. The hands-on experience in the analysis process is very important as they transition into the workforce. Essentially, professions in the field of chemistry are closely related to analysis activities,” she explained.
Through this visit, PSDMBP hopes to strengthen collaboration with higher education institutions in supporting the capacity building of human resources in the fields of mineral, coal, and geothermal resources, as well as laboratory analysis.
Terima Kunjungan Mahasiswa UNJANI, PSDMBP Berikan Pembekalan Analisis AAS
