The 5th Regional Geoheritage Conference: How The Rocks Connect Us & Geoheritage for Sustainable Development



What is Geoheritage Conference?

This conference is a continuation of the strong partnership between countries in Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific Region that has lasted for more than a decade. By fostering a platform for knowledge exchange and collaborative endeavors, this conference has the potential to unlock new avenues for sustainable geopark management, scientific exploration, and community development. Finally, this strengthened network cooperation between geoparks in this region can contribute to the advancement of geological knowledge, environmental preservation, and the well-being of local communities.

Introduction
To enhance understanding of various geoheritage activities worldwide, strengthen geoheritage-related initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region, and promote Indonesian geoheritage sites internationally, the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia will host the fifth Regional Geoheritage Conference. The conference will be held at UGGp Maros-Pangkep, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, from September 23 to 27, 2024. This event marks the fifth international conference on geoheritage protection, management, and sustainable development in protected areas and geoparks, organized in collaboration with the UGGp Maros-Pangkep.

This conference presents a valuable opportunity to exchange insights and experiences with colleagues in the field of geological heritage and geoparks. The Organizing Committee cordially invites you, your colleagues, and anyone involved in all aspects of geoheritage to participate in this significant event.

Aims
1. Strengthen geoheritage-related activities and collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region
2. Encourage the increasing number of research on geoheritage protection, management and sustainable development
3. Support the geoheritage promotion through geoconservation, education, and tourism activities
4. Contribute to geopark development, geohazard mitigation and risk reduction, and climate changes mitigation and adaption.
